Botox® Uses

Prevent Lines and Wrinkles

In the forehead. Brow furrows or frown lines. a.k.a glabellar lines or angry 11s. Around the eyes. Crow’s feet, a.k.a smile lines at the outside corner of the eyes.

Reduce Lines and Wrinkles

In the forehead. Brow furrows or frown lines, a.k.a glabellar lines or angry 11s. Around the eyes. Crow’s feet, a.k.a smile lines at the outside corner of the eyes. Lines around the mouth.

Botox® Brow Lift

Botox® is strategically injected to relax the muscles that drag the brows down, so the upward-pulling muscle of the forehead can do its thing unchecked. “This will cause a physical lift of the brows.

Leaves you with a more youthful, awake-looking eye area, and more defined brows. The difference is subtle but significant.

Botox® Lip Flip

Injected in tiny quantities at the corners of the mouth and near the Cupid’s bow (the double curve at the center of the upper lip) to unfurl lips to make them appear larger and fuller.

The vermilion border flips out a little bit and it gives you a very subtle improvement in upper lip show.

Botox® for Gummy Smile

A gummy smile refers to a smile where there’s an excessive display of the upper gum. There can be a few reasons for this, but one of the most common is a hyperactive muscle that causes the lip to elevate too much when you smile. In that case, Botox® is injected into the muscles on each side of the upper lip. That way, the upper lip isn’t able to lift up as much, so your gums don’t show when you smile.

Botox® for Facial Slimming (or Jawline Slimming)

Due to genetics or habits like teeth-grinding and jaw-clenching, the hypertrophic masseter muscles make the face appear bulky and square.

Botox® is injected into the masseter muscles, which reduces their size and slims down your jawline in just a few weeks.

Botox® for Neck Slimming

Similar to facial slimming, Botox® can be injected to reduce the appearance of prominent neck bands. After a few weeks, the neck bands relax and reduce in size, leaving you with a slimmer, and smoother, neck.

FAQ

Is there any downtime?

Nope! You can expect to be in and out of the office in 30 minutes or less and immediately return to your daily routine.

When will I see results?

The effects of Botox® begin to appear within one to five days, and reach their full effect sometime around 2 weeks after treatment.

How long will results last?

Results typically last from 3 to 4 months.

Does it hurt?

The needle used for botox is very small, and the treatment is very quick. Most people describe the sensation as a light pinching or pricking sensation.

Will I look fake or unnatural?

When Botox® is administered in the right amounts by trained and skilled providers, it results in a subtle improvement to your appearance. Your friends and family may notice that you look better, but they won’t know your secret unless you tell them!

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are usually mild and short lived. The most common are swelling and bruising at the injection site, soreness, and mild headache. Other side effects such as undesired impairment of muscle function may occur, but these are usually due to poor injection technique by unskilled providers.

When should I start getting Botox®?

As soon as you start seeing wrinkles when your face is at rest. For most people this can be as early as their 20s.

Can I get Botox® if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Botox® injections should not be used in pregnancy or when breastfeeding.

How many units will I need?

Your cosmetic team should be recommending units based on your goals. But if you’re curious, there are a few ways to estimate how many units you’ll need.

  1. Use the Decade Dosing rule of thumb. This rule estimates that you’ll need about as many units as you are old; so 20 units if you’re in your 20s, 30 units if you’re in your 30s, and so on.
  2. Estimate is by area. The 3 most commonly treated areas are the forehead (approx 20 units), glabella (approx 20 units), and crows feet (approx 18 units).

For other areas such as around the mouth, or for migraine treatment, the best way to get an estimate is to schedule a consultation.

How is Botox® different from Dermal Filler?

The first way Botox® differs from dermal fillers, such a Juvederm®, is how they work: neuromodulators like Botox® reduce the muscle activity that causes wrinkles to form, whereas dermal fillers add volume to plump, lift, and fill.

The other difference is the type of wrinkle they correct. Botox® addresses dynamic wrinkles that form when you make facial expressions. Fillers, on the other hand, are best suited for static wrinkles that are visible even when your face is at rest.

Pre-Treatment Tips

  • Schedule your treatment at least two weeks prior to events. This gives the Botox® time to reach full effect and ensures any redness, swelling or bruising has time to heal.
  • Discontinuing use of aspirin, ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatories for at least 3 days prior to treatment will reduce the risk of redness and bruising.
  • Avoid IPL photofacials and laser procedures for 7 days prior to treatment.

Post Treatment Tips

  • Do not massage or apply pressure on the treated area for 6 to 8 hours after treatment
  • Do not lie down for 3 hours after treatment
  • Avoid rigorous exercise, extensive sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverages on treatment day
  • Avoid facials and saunas for 24 hours after treatment
  • Try to exercise your treated muscles for 2 hours after treatment. For example, practice frowning, raising your eyebrows, and squinting. This helps work the Botox® into your muscles.
  • Headaches may occur. We recommend tylenol if you need something.
  • You may apply makeup as usual.
  • If you have any swelling, you may use cold compresses 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off as needed.
