FAQ

What is laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is the use of light energy to selectively remove a fraction of your skin’s surface, forcing your body to produce new skin tissue. It also penetrates in the deeper dermis layer of your skin to stimulate collagen production that tightens and plumps your skin as it heals. The end result is smoother, firmer, clearer skin for an overall more youthful appearance.

Is there any downtime?

Social downtime (when you won’t want to leave the house) can stretch anywhere from 7 to 14 days. Expect intensely red skin that feels warm for about seven days after treatment. You’ll also experience dry, peeling patches and roughness for five to seven days. After this initial recovery phase, the skin can remain pink for up to several weeks. You can return to using makeup and cover any lingering redness after seven to ten days.

I’m not able to take a week off, is there anything else I can do?

Absolutely! Opt for the Erbium Light Laser Skin Resurfacing. The downtime of 2 to 5 days is significantly shorter and you can achieve similar results to the CO2 with a series of 3 treatments.

When will I see results?

You’ll begin to see results after the recovery period, typically around 2 weeks, with results continuing to improve and reaching full effect at around 3 months.

How long will results last?

Results from CO2 laser skin resurfacing are permanent! However, we can’t stop the aging process so maintenance treatments are crucial to maintaining your results.

Does it hurt?

Topical numbing cream is applied for treatments to keep you comfortable. We also provide nitrous oxide, an analgesic sometimes called happy gas, during your treatment. At most you should feel a mild warmth.

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effects include redness, swelling, scabbing, oozing and peeling. A mild burning and / or itching sensation for a few days following treatment is common. Hyper or hypopigmentation is possible on some skin types.

Recovery sounds intense. Is it really worth it?

If you have the flexibility for the social downtime, then yes! CO2 laser skin resurfacing is the most powerful non-surgical skin treatment available and will leave your skin significantly healthier and looking years younger.

Can I get a CO2 treatment if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

CO2 laser skin resurfacing is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Post Treatment Tips

  • Expect redness, swelling, and a sunburn sensation.
  • Wash your skin with a gentle cleanser twice a day and pat dry (do not scrub).
  • You will be provided Stratacel to protect your skin and promote healing. Apply a thin layer to the treated area 2 times per day after cleansing.
  • Keep your stratacel in the refrigerator, this helps cool your skin when applied!
  • You may apply Aquaphor as often as needed for comfort.
  • You may apply cool compresses as needed for comfort.
  • You may take Tylenol as usual for discomfort.
  • Sleep with your head elevated or in a recliner for 1 week.
  • Do not peel or pull loose skin, you may carefully trim with scissors if you must.
  • Keep yourself well hydrated.
  • Avoid all sun exposure!
  • If you go outdoors, wear sunscreen with 30 to 50 SPF at all times.
  • No heavy exercise for 1 week.
  • Do not apply make-up for 1 week.
  • You may also cleanse and soothe your skin with vinegar soaks. Mix 1 teaspoon of white vinegar in 1 cop of water (refrigerate for even more soothing). Apply to your skin by soaking for 15 minutes with clean gauze or a washcloth every four hours as needed.
  • Get back to your regular skin care regimen around day 10 after treatment.
